Markham, Ontario Canada - just north of Toronto - is home to a certain sprawling mall with a lot of Chinese eateries. This is First Markham Place at 5 3255 Highway 7 East. There are numerous restaurants on the outside of the plaza and some of them are very good indeed. One can get the whole gamut of Asian food, from very casual to more classy dining. But this article tells you about one way of getting a meal that you may not know about unless you are Chinese.
This meal is called in Chinese 'wor choy' and it is a complete meal with rice, soup or a soy milk drink and dishes. To find this meal you have to go inside the mall and there you will find a food court. There are no less than twenty-three different stalls serving different kinds of food, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Japanese, Korean and of course, Chinese. A few of the stalls specialize only in drinks and snacks.
There are tables in the middle of the food court where you can eat your meal after you choose what you want. Wor choy is to be found at the Chinese food stalls.
Chinese Food Stalls in First Markham Place
These are:
- Markham Delight
- Yan's Wok
- Hon's Wok
- Wah Lam Food Expert
- Arden Fast Food
- Wei Kitchen
The combinations are for one, two, three, and four, and they cost $6 for one person, $12 for two, $16.99 for three and $21.50 for four. Of course, one can combine these combinations for more people. It goes without saying that this is a fraction of what you might pay in a restaurant.
The menus are quite extensive, offering from 52 to over 80 dishes. And the dishes are of a very high quality. The only thing is that your meal is served in styrofoam containers, so it is a good idea to take them home and serve them in nice dishes. You can of course simply eat them in the mall as so many people do.
How to Order at Chinese Fast Food Stalls
If you are ordering for four people, it is a good idea to order two meat dishes and one fish and a vegetable dish. Recommended is a half chicken dish such as chicken with giner and green onion and a beef dish. The beef dishes with vegetables, whether french beans, ginger and onion or Chinese brocccoli are especially good. The fish dishes are good. You will not get whole fish or fillets but chunks of fish cut up and fried with vegetables. There are also other vegetable and tofu dishes to choose from.
The point of wor choy, especially at First Markham Place, is that you can mix and match dishes perhaps from more than one food vendor to come up with a fabulous meal.
